The Be Clear on Cancer brand has been used to promote awareness and early diagnosis of lung cancer since 2010. It was piloted regionally from October to November 2011 and went national for the first time in May 2012. Since then there have been a number of ‘reminder’ campaigns to keep the key messages front of mind.
Results from previous campaigns, including those from the first national campaign (May - Jun 2012) show there were an estimated 700 additional cancers diagnosed in the months surrounding activity, compared to the same period in the previous year. During this time, approximately 400 more people had their cancers diagnosed at an earlier stage and around 300 additional patients had surgery as a first treatment for diagnosed lung cancer.
This section has information about the Be Clear on Cancer lung cancer campaigns, and provides some useful tools and resources specifically for healthcare professionals, including GPs, practice and pharmacy teams.
NHS Wales ran a lung cancer awareness campaign in Wales, focusing on a persistent three week cough as a symptom of lung cancer. The campaign ran from 11 July to 11 August 2016. See more information on the lung cancer campaign in Wales.
