Will-writing Service
Cancer Research UK’s terms and conditions relating to the use of Cancer Research UK’s Will-writing Service
1. CRUK’s Will-writing Service (formerly referred to as the “Free Will Service”)
Gifts in Wills play a vital role in funding Cancer Research UK’s (CRUK) work and CRUK has partnered with a number of carefully selected Will-writing providers (Will-writing Providers) to form CRUK’s Will-writing Service Panel (Will-writing Service Panel).
Your use of CRUK’s Will-writing Service (Will-writing Service) is governed by the following terms and conditions. CRUK may amend these terms and conditions at any time.
2. Age restriction
You must be aged 18 or over to use the Will-writing Service.
3. Costs covered by CRUK
CRUK pay Will-writing Providers to prepare for users of the Will-writing Service a simple Will, simple mirror Will, or simple updates to existing Wills. When giving instructions to your Will-writing Provider you should check that the cost of the Will is covered by the Will-writing Service. Any costs incurred in excess of the cost that is covered by the Will-writing Service will be your responsibility. CRUK will pay up to a maximum of three times in relation to each user - this includes new Wills and updates to existing Wills.
CRUK reserves the right to pause or withdraw the Will-Writing Service at any time.
4. Your Personal Data
You must consent to your Will-writing Provider providing CRUK with your full name, address, date of birth and information about whether or not you have included a gift to CRUK in your Will and if so, the size and type of that gift. Your data will be used by CRUK for product development purposes and also so CRUK can get in touch to thank you if you’ve kindly left a gift in your Will to CRUK when using the Will-writing Service.
Your Will-writing Provider may also share with CRUK whether your Will is simple or complex and the features that define this, for example, inclusion of a trust or multiple beneficiaries. This will be used by CRUK purely for product development purposes and no personal information will be shared with CRUK regarding this.
For full details of what information CRUK hold and how we process your data, please read CRUK’s privacy policy at cruk.org/privacy. You can change your mind at any time by contacting CRUK on 0300 123 3379 or preferences@cancer.org.uk.
5. Gift in Wills
Most people who write their Will using the Will-writing Service choose to include a gift in their Will to Cancer Research UK and we hope that you will too. There is no obligation on users of the Will-writing Service to leave a gift to CRUK.
CRUK understands that you may want your gift to go towards research into a certain type of cancer or to provide support in your local area. If this is the case, we encourage you to contact CRUK to discuss this further. If you include this as an expression of wishes in your Will, CRUK will use reasonable endeavours to implement this request. In the absence of being able to implement the request and in all other circumstances, CRUK will decide how best CRUK can use the funds for CRUK’s general charitable purposes.
6. Our Will-writing Providers
Please check the Will-writing Provider’s terms and conditions before you proceed with instructing any member of our Will-writing Service Panel. If you choose to proceed, you will be entering into a direct contract with the relevant Will-writing Provider to prepare your Will and not CRUK. Your Will-writing Provider alone has control of and is responsible for preparing your Will.
Although our Will-writing Providers have been carefully selected, we cannot endorse or guarantee the services provided by any members of the Will-Writing Service Panel. We recommend that you consider other will-writing providers and choose the services of a will-writing provider that you are happy with. CRUK excludes all actions, claims, liabilities, losses, damages, costs and expenses arising as a result of any services provided by any member of the Will-writing Service Panel.
Our Will-writing Service Panel is made up of solicitors, members of The Institute of Professional Will writers, and members of the Society of Will Writers. The solicitors who are members of our Will-writing Service Panel are registered with and regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority in England and Wales, The Law Society of Scotland, and the Law Society of Northern Ireland (as appropriate).
