Celebrating the achievements of our volunteers

David started his mission to raise funds and awareness for Cancer Research UK in 2016, in memory of his dad who passed away aged 54 from lung cancer. Since then, he has personally raised over £165,000 for the charity, supported fellow fundraisers with events, and served as Vice Chair of the Committee for Relay for Life Warrington, which raised over £100,000. 

“My inspiration to fundraise is simple – to make a difference. To help more relatives, friends, colleagues – of other people, and myself – see and give a smile in more tomorrows.” 

In January 2025, David was honoured with the coveted British Citizen Award Medal of Honour for Service to Volunteering & Charitable Giving (BCAv) at the Palace of Westminster. This recognition celebrates outstanding contributions to society. 

“There have been too many people lost to cancer. I can either sit at home and despair or I can get up and try to make a difference. I chose to try and make a difference. I don’t do what I do for any other reason than I love doing it. I’m still gobsmacked! A labour of love is no labour at all.”
