Race for Life micro volunteer - multiple opportunities

“I want people to cross the finish line with a big smile. I like to do the stage warm up and then run to the finish line. I’ll jump up and down, wave, and cheer. I get a lot of people coming up and saying thank you. It can be hard for people to get through. You hear people telling their stories, and you feel like you’re helping to combat it.” -Jon, Race for Life and Pretty Muddy Volunteer
Overview
Volunteers are vital to the success of Race for Life, which has so far raised £970 million for our research.
We're always looking for volunteers to help make these events epic, but we recognise that not everyone can spare a whole day. We want you to help out in the way that works best for you by being flexible.
So, now if you really want to help hype up the vibe but with a shorter shift of just 3 hours (including 1hr briefing) this role is perfect!
There are various role options – something to suit all – from an event site volunteer helping with set up or pack down to enquiries and admin supporting with participants questions and registration. Plus, maybe a cycle volunteer (own bike required), or race pacer (10k only).
All volunteers receive a full briefing in advance of their shift starting from their team leader, and refreshments. There will be no expectation for any ongoing commitment to Cancer Research UK or any of our other events – although we’d love to stay in touch - but you really can just turn up, do your bit and go on with your day.
Next Steps
If this opportunity is for you, you’ll find full details on the sign up process at the bottom of this advert.
Please note: you be able to select the event and date of your choice from a drop-down list within the application form. However, to ensure you are correctly allocated to a shorter micro shift at this event, please use the word ‘micro’ in the free text box on the registration form.
You can make a big difference in a short space of time
We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to support our events across the UK. So, whether you want to fly solo, bring a friend or help as part of a larger group, your support in cheering event participants out on the course will help create the signature vibrant vibe on the day, and make such a difference to those taking part. As such, we’re looking for people who:
-
Can help us out for just a few hours – though you can, of course, stay longer if you’re loving it!
-
Specifically want to help out along the event course route to guide and cheer on those taking part
-
Engaging, friendly and keen to make sure everyone has a brilliant time
-
Willing to get stuck in and shout, whoop, holler, help and cheer each and everyone they see
There’s no training required (just a pre-shift briefing), and no supervision as such – so the world is your oyster for how you might want to help enhance the vibe while marshalling on the day. Though, of course, our friendly event delivery team and wonderful group of fellow helpers will all be on hand to give you a warm welcome, show you the ropes and ensure you have the best time too.
The benefits you can expect
When you volunteer at Race for Life – even just for a few hours, you make a difference to cancer outcomes.
