These events are organised by supporters on behalf of Cancer Research UK with the assistance of Cancer Research UK staff. All questions about the events should be directed to the event organisers directly.
What is Woof Walkies?
Woof Walkies is a sponsored walk with a difference: the fundraisers have four legs! From Chihuahuas to Great Danes, from Crufts champions to lovable mutts, the UK’s dogs are taking the lead to raise vital funds and help beat cancer. Every pound raised goes towards Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work.
But Woof Walkies isn’t just about raising money for this vital cause. It’s also an opportunity to get out in the fresh air and celebrate our special dogs.
Did you know?
Cancer is a disease of cells and all cells can become cancerous - whether they belong to humans or dogs. The treatments and drugs that Cancer Research UK scientists have developed for beating cancer in humans are now often used to tackle canine cancers as well.
The Three Amigos' Story
We started our sponsored dog walk in 2010. We had a little Yorkshire Terrier dog called Oscar, who was our third Amigo. We came up with the idea for his love of walks!
We knew that many people have dogs and thought it was a great idea and it would be a fun family event. It’s a very popular event, 2.2 miles, and we held it at our local beauty spot Hollingworth Lake.
We had prizes for most sponsorship raised and best fancy dress dog outfit. After the event we gave out goody bags, which people and the dogs loved! We also held a raffle and tombola. We would have about 100 entries and it raised from £2000 to £4000, depending on sponsors.
Unfortunately, our last event in 2019 was in memory of our beloved dog Oscar, who passed away with cancer.
We became The Three Amigos FUNdraising Group and we have raised in excess of £140,000 with events around our hobbies.
