Getting diagnosed with bone cancer

You usually start by seeing your GP. They will examine you and might refer you for tests or to a specialist. If the tests show that you have a cancer, you have more tests to find out how big it is and whether it has spread. This is called staging.

Screening for bone cancer

There is no national screening programme for primary bone cancer. But you may be able to have tests if you are at a high risk of developing it.

Tests for bone cancer

You usually have a number of tests to check for cancer that starts in the bones. This includes scans and having a sample of bone tissue taken (a biopsy).
