Cancer Research UK Giving Pages Community Guidelines

When you sign up to fundraise with Cancer Research UK, we automatically create a Giving Page so you can start fundraising as soon as you are ready. On your Giving Page, you can share your story and photos to tell everyone why you’re fundraising for Cancer Research UK and what your fundraising target is. You can also use the Platform to make donations to Giving Pages with the option to add a comment.

To help make sure everyone gets the most from the Cancer Research UK Giving Pages (“the Platform”) and is respectful towards each other, we ask that everyone using the Platform follow these Community Guidelines.

By using the Platform, you are agreeing to these Community Guidelines, the Platform Terms and Conditions and our Privacy Policy, so you should read these documents carefully and make sure you understand them before using the Platform.

We have the right to update and change these Community Guidelines and our terms and conditions at any time. If you have any questions or concerns about these Community Guidelines or your use of the Platform, please contact us via onlinefundraisingqueries@cancer.org.uk.

Keeping you safe

Keeping everyone safe when using the Platform is important to us. We do this by:

  • Asking you to follow these Community Guidelines. If you do not follow these guidelines or any other terms and conditions that apply to your use of the Platform, we have the right to remove your content, including unpublishing or close your Giving Page.
  • Making it as easy as possible for you to report content you are concerned about (including anything you feel is inappropriate, illegal or harmful) or which you feel otherwise breaches these Community Guidelines or our Platform Terms and Conditions. You can:

(a) in the case of a comment made by someone when they have made a donation or update, within the comment select “Menu” and then “Report content” and complete the online form, which can also be accessed directly here;

(b) in the case of a Giving Page, scroll to the bottom of the page and click “Report this page” and complete the online form, which can also be accessed directly here;

(c) complete our general feedback form here;

(d) email us at onlinefundraisingqueries@cancer.org.uk; or

(e) call us on 0300 123 4452.

  • Ensuring you can make a complaint to us where (amongst other things) you are concerned that we have not complied with applicable online safety laws, for example the Online Safety Act 2023, by following the guidance set out on our Complaints Page here.
  • Reviewing and responding to any reports of Illegal or Harmful Content within 5 working.
  • Monitoring the Platform for inappropriate, illegal or harmful content on a periodic basis and swiftly remove any such content. We do not pre-moderate content added to the Platform.
  • Ensuring that our moderators have guidance to follow and there are processes in place so that Illegal or Harmful Content (including where a child has made a complaint to us) is swiftly removed from the Platform once it is detected and verified. All content moderation on the Platform is carried out by our team at Cancer Research UK.
  • Monitoring the risks that the Platform is being used to disseminate illegal content and ensure that potential risks are escalated internally.
  • Ensuring that all relevant teams and individuals within Cancer Research UK are provided with suitable training and resources to effectively process reports and complaints regarding alleged Illegal Content.
  • In the unlikely event that we become aware of terrorism content or content that relates to child sexual exploitation and abuse or any other illegal content, minimising the length of time it is on the Platform by promptly reviewing the content in question and removing it immediately once it has been verified.  We have assessed the risk of this type of content appearing on the forum as low
  • In the unlikely event of concerns about child exploitation, terrorism or threats of violence, or any other safeguarding issues, ensuring that such content is immediately escalated to our Safeguarding Team for further action and/or directly to the appropriate law enforcement or regulatory body.
