What is a chatbot?

The term “chatbot” is used to describe any sort of automated service which provides information in the format of a conversation.

What terms and conditions apply to the chatbots Cancer Research UK provide?

Any use you make of the chatbots Cancer Research UK provide is subject to our Website Terms and Conditions.

What sort of questions can chatbots answer?

Cancer Research UK is operating two chatbots on a temporary basis to provide general information in response to basic questions about fundraising and about Cancer Research UK Giving Pages. The information that each chatbot can provide is set by Cancer Research UK. However if your question is important or urgent, or the chatbot has not been able to provide the information you need, please have a look at the other resources on the website or contact us by one of the methods on our Contact Us page.

What does that mean for my privacy?

Questions you type into either of our chatbots will be used to check if the chatbot has information which it calculates may be relevant to your question, for us to assess the effectiveness of chatbots and to improve any future chatbots we may develop. 

Neither chatbot will ask you to provide any personal information, as none of the questions they are  capable of answering require this.  We ask that you do not provide personal information to the chatbot.  Please see our Privacy Policy for more information on how we handle personal information.

Can I send messages to Cancer Research UK using the chatbot?

Chatbot conversations are not routinely monitored by Cancer Research UK so if there’s something important or complicated you need to talk to us about please contact Supporter Services. You can find details of how to do this on our Contact Us page.

Anything else I need to know?

Both chatbots are being trialled as a proof of concept by Cancer Research UK, so we may change or update what they can do from time to time. If we do so, we’ll update this notice.  

Cancer Research UK may discontinue the chatbot service without notice at any time.
