About Shine Night Walk Edinburgh
Shine Night Walk Edinburgh is an illuminating night-time walk passing some of the city's most famous sights.
People of all abilities can take part.
The 10k walk will take between 1.5 to 3 hours to complete.
When you sign up for Shine Night Walk you can select to fundraise for a type of cancer research that is closest to your heart.

The Shine Night Walk in Edinburgh takes you through the heart of the city past some of the city's most iconic landmarks.
Depending on your pace, the 10k route will take between 1.5 - 3 hours.

What fundraising can do
When you sign up to Shine Night Walk you can pick which research area you want to support, from bowel cancer to children’s cancers or simply where the need is greatest.
Over the last 40 years our work has helped double breast cancer survival, supported the development of radiotherapy and played a role in developing 8 of the world’s top 10 cancer drugs.
Nearly 1 in 2 of us will get cancer in our lifetime*, but your fundraising can make a difference.
How fundraising helps Edinburgh
Our Scotland Centre brings together the expertise of scientists and NHS staff in Glasgow and Edinburgh. It's focusing on finding new ways to prevent, detect and treat hard-to-treat cancers and is determined to make a difference for people with cancer in Edinburgh and beyond. The Centre works closely with the local NHS Trusts and Public Health Scotland to close the gap between research and the clinic making the most of crucial data to inform better diagnosis and treatment for people living with cancer.
Cancer Research UK spent over £7 million in Edinburgh in 2022/23.
Research happening right now in Edinburgh includes:
- We’re targeting cancer’s recycling system.
- We’re using new drug combinations to treat brain tumours.
- We’re uncovering the role of immune cells in skin cancer.
- We’re deciphering how brain tumours develop.
We're with you every step of the way
Fundraising support
We’re here to help you kickstart your fundraising and smash your target. We recommend a fundraising goal of £150 for 10K walkers and £260 for half and full marathon walkers, but no matter how much you raise, your fundraising powers our progress.

Shine Night Walk isn’t about being the first across the finish line, but it’s important to be prepared. Whether you’re planning to power walk, stride or stroll, find out how long each distance will take and get your training plan.

Shine Night Walk is about all of us coming together to beat cancer. But you don’t need to wait until the walk! After signing up you’ll receive a link to join the official Shine Night Walk Facebook group, where you can share support, fundraising ideas and training tips with your fellow walkers.
