Pseudomyxoma peritonei is a very rare cancer that usually begins in your appendix as a small growth. This is called a polyp. More rarely, it can start in other parts of the bowel, ovaries or bladder.

Pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) is a very rare type of cancer. It usually begins in your appendix as a small polyp-like growth, called a low grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasm (LAMN).

Treatment for pseudomyxoma peritonei

Treatment for pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) depends on the size of the tumour and your general health. The main treatments are surgery and chemotherapy. Your doctor might decide to closely monitor your cancer if it’s small, slow growing and you don’t currently need treatment.
